12 leaves, months, in the cycle of the seasonsof a year of growth, with the 12 branches symbolizing the 12 years of martial arts training towards mastery of ones self.

FIRST DEGREE Training Time = minimum 48 months
- -Cho Dan
- -Certified Cho Dan minimum 4-8 months from receipt of black belt
- -Certified Assistant Instructor Cho Dan
SECOND DEGREE Training Time = minimum 24 months from last test
- -Certified E Dan
- -Cerfified Assistant Instructor E Dan
Assistant Instructors must teach a minimum of two and one half (2 ½) hours a week to achieve Instructor Rank

THIRD DEGREE Training Time = minimum 36 months from last test
- -Certified Sam Dan
- -Certified Assistant Instructor Sam Dan
Assistant Instructors must teach a minimum of five (5) hours a week to achieve Instructor Rank

FOURTH DEGREE Tranining Time = minimum 48 months from last test
- -Certified Junior Master Instructor Sa Dan
FIFTH DEGREE Tranining Time = minimum 60 months from last test
- -Certified Master Instructor Oh Dan
Training times and grades listed above are to be used only as a guideline, and for those members that train on a 3-4 times weekly schedule.
All Black Belts ranked at the age of 15 years or younger will be ranked "JG", Junior Grade Black Belt. At the age of 16 years they will be re-certified at their current full rank.
The title of " Chief Instructor " is given to the head instructor of a school or studio. This title is appointed by the TEMAS Founding Master.
